PLC, PC or PAC?

In a word, it’s all about … automation.  Now that the economy is beginning to recover, most manufacturing companies report that they are planning to invest in more automation.

For more than 30 years we have been using our trusty PLC’s because they are simple and reliable, if a bit quirky.  PLC’s have practically merged with PC’s in recent times.

Then, more recently, the PLC sprouted wings and emerged as a PAC.  If you’re not already familiar with a PAC – that’s a Programmable Automation Controller.  These units combine the sturdy reliability of the PLC with the programming language of a PC.

Time Well Spent in 2010 – A Note from ACS Industrial

Just saw an ad for a book titled “How You Can Test Electronic Equipment Like a Pro”.  I just have to ask – why would you want to when I’m guessing you are darn busy already.   I know I am mighty busy here at ACS Industrial evaluating, testing, and repairing your electronic equipment because that’s my expertise and I’m good at it.  Send us more!

You know, I could probably get a car repair for dummies book and learn to do all my own car repairs too…but why would I want to when “Joe” at my favorite auto repair shop here in Hunt Valley, Maryland is already an expert.  He can repair my car a lot faster and better than I can.  Plus, he’s already got all the equipment and parts handy.

Repair or Replace Your Industrial Electronics? How to Make an Educated Decision

Repair or replace your damaged industrial electronics?

Occasionally it’s a clear cut decision like the customer with a burn hole the size of North Dakota in his circuit board.  Definitely dumpster material.  More often, there are a few things to consider when making industrial electronic repair decisions.  Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

How much did it cost new?

ACS Industrial Repairs Allen Bradley PLC’s

One of our regular customers recently sent us an Allen Bradley PLC SLC 150  for repair.  It had no low voltage output, no LED error indicator lights working and the DC power light would come on but no other indicators were lighting.

The customer was afraid it would not be repairable.  We utilized our Allen Bradley rack to analyze the unit and were able to identify the problems quickly.

We quoted the customer a competitive price in just 48 hours after receiving their item.  The customer was happy with the price and immediately issued a purchase order.

Got our old Mitsubishi servo motor repaired

Three weeks ago our glass CNC machining center started giving an overcurrent alarm.  We determined that it was most likely the old Mitsubishi servo motor that was the problem so we sent it, along with the encoder, to ACS Industrial Services to check it out.  There was no cost for the evaluation of the encoder or the motor.  The motor was bad and because it was no longer in production we were afraid we would have to buy new.  But ACS Industrial quoted us for repair and listed all of the work that would be included.  Our Mitsubishi servo motor came back looking like new again and is working great.
